Welcome to the JHU MA in Communication Career Blog. We have met communication professionals–aspiring and experienced–who ask, ““What can I do with a communication career?” Although they seem embarrassed to ask this question, we think it’s a common conundrum. After all, communicators come from all walks of life. They try to get people to buy green household cleaning products, vote for a candidate, eat healthier, donate to a local animal shelter, and do a gazillion other things. It’s hard to see the common thread. No wonder people are confused.
Coursework can’t necessarily answer the question. And come to think of it, no one person has the entire answer. We have therefore created a space for collective wisdom.
This blog is a resource for current and prospective students, alums, faculty members, and other professionals with no connection to the JHU MA in Communication program. No matter who you are, you are probably here because you are looking to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to work in the communication field. Various bloggers will give their snapshots of their jobs in the communication profession.
We have only two rules:
1. Participate! You may not be a blogger, but we need your questions and thoughts, otherwise this blog will be nothing more than a glorified website.
2. Exercise mutual respect. We know this request goes without saying, but you know we have to ask 🙂
So sit back, relax, read on, and while you’re at it, jump into the conversation. No uniform is required, but if you’re like us, you might just be wearing your most comfortable sweatpants.
